Nagpur: West Nagpur MLA and Nagpur City (District) Congress President Vikas Thakre has strongly backed Rahul Gandhi, stating that the Congress leader has set a benchmark for how an effective Leader of the Opposition should function in a democratic system.
Addressing the media in Nagpur, Thakre said that Rahul Gandhi, through his consistent public engagement and political campaigns, has brought several pressing national issues to the forefront. “From unemployment and inflation to social justice and institutional accountability, Rahul Gandhi has raised concerns that directly affect the common citizen,” he remarked.

Launching a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, Thakre alleged that the ruling party has, over the past few years, run a sustained campaign to defame Rahul Gandhi. “Despite extensive efforts, the BJP has failed to dent his credibility among the masses. Now, they seem to be left with no substantial political narrative,” he claimed.
He further accused the BJP-led government of misusing central investigative agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to target opposition leaders and suppress dissent. “These agencies have been used as political tools to curb Rahul Gandhi’s growing influence, but such tactics have not deterred him from continuing his work,” Thakre asserted.
Highlighting the Congress party’s electoral strength, Thakre pointed out that under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, the party has achieved significant political success in key regions. He cited Keralam as an example, urging the BJP to acknowledge the Congress alliance’s governance record and public support in the state.
Reiterating his confidence, Thakre said that Rahul Gandhi’s leadership continues to resonate with people across the country and that attempts to stall his political momentum have repeatedly failed.
