Digvijay Singh, Congress General Secretary, got married to his long-time girlfriend Amrita Rai, the anchor of Rajya Sabha TV. According to media reports, Digvijay and Amrita tied knots in Chennai in April 2015.
While Amrita was not available to comment on the reports, sources close to Digvijay Singh confirmed the news. Digvijay was in US and Amrita too was on leave when the news broke.
The 68-year-old Congress leader had confirmed his relationship with Rai, 44, in April last year.
“She and her husband have already filed a mutual consent divorce case. Once that is decided we would formalise it,” the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister had then tweeted.
Rai, 44, who currently works for Rajya Sabha TV, had also chose Twitter to confirm her relationship with Digivijaya Singh and her separation from husband Anand Pradhan.
“I have separated from my husband and we have filed a mutual consent divorce papers. After which I have decided to marry with Digvijaya Singh,” she had tweeted.
Digvijaya’s first wife Asha Singh passed away in February 2013 after battling cancer for several years.
