Nagpur News : Chartered Accountants are the best guide & consultants for the Banking Industry said  Sunil Nerkar, DGM, Union Bank of India, Nagpur while speaking as the Chief Guest at the Bank Branch Audit Seminar, organized by Nagpur Branch of ICAI. He further said that the staff in the banking industry is working very hard across industry. He asked the Chartered Accountant professional to conduct Statutory Bank Branch Audit as per laid down procedures & rules but he urged them to give due consideration to practical aspects & situations. He appreciated the fact that the members of the Institute are very co-operative while conducting the Audits.

Chairman of Nagpur Branch CA. Ashwini Agrawal in his welcome address said that bank audit has been a traditional area of practice of Chartered Accountants. Bank branch audit is a regular but important assignment for CA & the Seminar is organized to update the knowledge & skills of members. He informed members about various activities carried out by the Branch for the members & students.

Past President, ICAI, CA. Amarjit Chopra in his key note address said that with changed norms, auditing of branches below 20 crores advances once in every 5 year is disastrous move having a huge impact on the financial stability of the Banking Industry. He appraised members with various new initiatives taken up by ICAI for development of the profession.

Past President, ICAI CA. Jaydeep Shah in his brief remarks said that Chartered
Accountants share very good relationship with banking industry. He appreciated the efforts of Nagpur Branch in organizing various programmes for members & students .

Vice Chairman, WIRC CA. Julfesh Shah in his remarks appreciated the efforts of Nagpur Branch in carrying out various activities for the benefit of members. He informed about the various initiative taken by WIRC of ICAI. He further said that the banking sector in India has been the major driving force for the country’s growth over the past four decades. Banks act as a mechanism for the inclusive growth of the country. But presently high inflation & interest rates are putting pressure on the overall banking system. Portfolios are stressed, NPA’s are on rise asset & liability mismatch, and other issues are the challenges for this sector. It is in this contest our role as a statutory auditor gains more importance with greater responsibility in this challenging time.

In the First technical Session CA. Amarjit Chopra, Past President, ICAI, Presented his paper on Audit of Advances & Prudential Norms. In the second technical session CA. Giriraj Soni, from Mumbai presented paper on Audit through Core Banking Solutions (CBS) and CA. Prabhakar Risbud from Nagpur presented a paper on LFAR & other Certifications. All the speakers resolved various queries of the participants in most effective manner.

CA. Kirti Agrawal, Vice Chairperson co-ordinated the inaugural session. CA. Suren Duragkar, CPE Chairman introduced the Chief Guest, Secretary of the Branch CA. Swapnil Ghate proposed formal vote of thanks.
