Nagpur News.

It was strongly anticipated and about to happen soon, given the poll temperatures are soaring with every passing day. The long prevailing cold war between two Congress stalwarts – Nagpur MP Vilas Muttemwar and Maharashtra’s Employment Guarantee Minister Nitin Raut finally came to screeching halt and the two finally called the truce. The deadlock between the two ended on the peaceful note after the timely intervention from the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan followed by AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi’s directive to shed inhibitions and work towards larger interest of the party. Gandhi took this stance when he made a brief visit to Wardha near here recently.

The internal rift has been marring the Congress prospects big time. The absence of Raut from some of Muttemwar’s crucial election activities taken up recently raised the speculation to new high. The differences between the two have been the high talking point in the media for quite some time which has been sending the gossip mongers to cook their own stories. Ending the months of cold war CM Chavan stepped up to play the peacemaker who led the two poles-apart leaders to bury the hatchet and forget the past to start afresh in renewed action, in view of upcoming general election.

It so happened that the bereaved Congress leader Krishnakumar Pande had called a condolence meet to pay homage to her deceased mother who passed away recently.

As the discussion cropped up, Raut inched towards the chief minister and lamented over not being informed about Muttemwar’s election rally in south Nagpur. Sensing the situation Chavan called both Muttemwar and Raut at Ramgiri – CM’s official residence in Nagpur. Besides Raut and Muttemwar, Chavan has called all the senior Congress leaders including former MP Anees Ahmed, Congress city president Vikas Thakre, Satish Chaturvedi and other partymen to this meet.

As the talk progressed late evening at Ramgiri, the trail of complaints followed from both the sides and after speaking their hearts out the two leaders bowed to Chavan’s inclination towards truce. After due deliberation from all the leaders, both Muttemwar and Raut decided to work unitedly towards party’s interest in order to lead it to the winning position in the election.

Before this, the differences between the two also cropped before Rahul Gandhi who visited here to attend election rally in Wardha and sought to know about the situation here. It was then too Raut told Gandhi that Muttemwar was trying to go solo in the campaign and not taking him in confidence. In turn, Gandhi had asked CM Pritviraj Chavan to intervene and set things right since they cannot afford rift within the party.
