During his five-day visit to Japan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will pitch Maharashtra as a favoured industrial and cultural destination. On Thursday, the chief minister will inaugurate a memorial and statue of Dr. Ambedkar in Osaka.
Fadnavis said that he was looking forward to strengthening industrial and cultural ties with Japan, and forging an eventful partnership in the infrastructure sector, which is integral to the ‘Make in Maharashtra’ mission.
The chief minister will hold talks with the captains of the Japanese industry. Minister of Social Justice Rajesh Badole and Republican Party of India chief Ramdas Athavale will accompany the chief minister for the Ambedkar memorial inauguration function at Koysan University at Mount Koya in Wakayama prefecture. A memorandum of understanding will be signed between Koyasan University and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar University, Aurangabad, in Maharashtra.
As part of the emphasis on cultural tourism, the state will promote Buddhist heritage tourism in Ajanta and Ellora and the study of Buddhist literature, history and teachings of Ambedkar in a modern context to enhance ties between India and Japan.
Two roadshows have been planned at Tokyo and Osaka. A series of business meetings scheduled at Tokyo and Osaka will discuss investment partnership between India and Japan. The state government has decided to implement the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link on EPC basis.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been approached to provide a loan for the project. The consultants appointed by JICA are appraising the project. The appraisal is expected to be completed in November 2015 and would be followed by a loan agreement with JICA. The bid process for the work is expected thereafter. The project will be discussed during the chief minister’s visit.
