Chief of Staff, HQ Army training command visits insitute of Military Law, Kamptee

Nagpur News : Lt Gen B S Sachar, SM, VSM, the Chief of Staff, HQ Army Training Command (ARTRAC), Shimla visited Institute of Military Law (IML), Kamptee on 31 Mar 2014. This is the first maiden visit of Lt Gen Sachar to IML. Chief of Staff, HQ ARTRAC is a coveted Army appointment under whose guidance and control all Category ‘A’ and Category ‘B’ training establishments of the Indian Army throughout the country are run. Needless to say that the quality of training to officers of the Army and the Other Ranks lays the foundation of their character building and professionalism.

IML which is located at Kamptee Cantt is a Cat A trg est which imparts training to officers of Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and also officers from Paramilitary Military Forces belonging to BSF, Coast Guard, GREF, NSG etc in military and allied subjects. It runs various courses on discipline, vigilance and military law subjects for the officers of all Arms/Services as well as JAG Departmental officers. Officers from foreign countries also visit IML for training purposes. The course include Judge Advocate Basic course (Young Officers course) of the JAG’s department as also Judge Advocate Advance course for the middle rung officers of the department . The courses are highly useful to the Indian Army since the training curriculum aims at maintenance of discipline in the Forces as well as dispensation of justice to the rank and profile.

The General Officer addressed the student officers who are presently attending the Middle Level Commanders and Staff Officers Law Course and representing various Headquarters/Formations of the Indian Army including Field Formations. He emphasized the need of understanding the practical aspects of training in dealing with disciplinary cases of the Army.

A large number of court cases can be cut down by meticulous handling of disciplinary affairs by the Commanding Officers and Commanders exercising judicial powers and the AG/DV staff officers play key role in this regard by giving appropriate legal advises and ensuring that the procedural aspects are followed properly in accordance with law. The Chief of Staff also advised the officers to handle disciplinary matters with maturity and due compassion. The Instructional Staff and Student Officers were immensely benefited with the visit of the Chief of Staff.

On this occasion, the Chief of Staff inspected the premises of the Institute and praised the upliftment and the progressive development under the stewardship of Brig D K Ahluwalia, Commandant, IML. He also appreciated the quality of training being imparted to the officers and the dedication of the IML Officers and Staff.

The Chief of Staff also took a wind shield tour to the GRC. He also met Brig Satish Wasade, Stn Cdr, Kamptee Cantt and Comdt, GRC and interacted with him on regimental affairs.
