Cheers! Nagpur finally features in Smart City list!

Nagpur Smart City

Nagpur/New Delhi: Nagpur can now heave sigh of relief as it has finally crossed its first barrier in way to become a smart city. After two rounds of unsuccessful pitch, Nagpur finally made it to the list smart cities in the third round. The urban development ministry has included Nagpur along with 26 other cities in the third list of Smart Cities.

Besides Nagpur, the list also includes 4 other cities from Maharashtra – Aurangabad, Nashik, Thane and Kalyan-Dombivli. Till now 60 cities have been selected in three rounds.

Interestingly, Varanasi the Parliamentary Constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also been included in the third list.

Four cities each from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have also made it to the list followed by three from Uttar Pradesh and two each from Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan. One city each from Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Sikkim and Nagaland has been selected in this round.

According to urban development ministry’s estimate, Rs 1.44 lakh crore investment has been proposed by the 60 cities that have been selected so far under their smart city plans. Officials said that 82 projects are already under implementation by the first batch of 20 smart cities and another 113 projects will soon take off the ground. Naidu said in the next one year, one would get to see smart cities taking shape.
