Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Wednesday gave a hint of tie-up with NCP for the coming NMC poll. Chavan, who was in city to lead party protest against demonetization, told media that the party had held a meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday. The meeting stressed coming together of secular parties to fight against BJP-Shiv Sena combine. The words of Chavan are being seen as a hint of tie-up with NCP for NMC election.

However, Chavan clarified that the alliance with NCP could be at places where BJP-Shiv Sena is in power. It will be fight against each other where Congress and NCP are ruling parties. The party high command has left it to the local level units of the party.

Speculations are rife over tie-up between Congress and NCP for Nagpur Municipal Corporation elections. Will it be or will it not is topic of guessing game but the workers of both parties are not in favour of alliance. The main reason for this opposition is the Prabhag system. Workers of both the parties see the alliance as a hurdle in their chances of fighting the poll.
