Chargesheet against Kanhaiya Kumar not accepted by court

A Delhi court today rapped the Delhi Police for filing a chargesheet against former Jawaharlal Nehru University student leader Kanhaiya Kumar without getting approval from the Delhi government.

“You don’t have approval from legal department, why did you file chargesheet without approval,” the court asked police while hearing the matter.

The Delhi Police replied that it will get approval from the government in 10 days.

The 1,200-page chargesheet in which former JNU students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya were also arrayed as accused was filed on January 14 for shouting anti-India slogans during an event on the university’s campus on February 9, 2016, to commemorate the hanging of Parliament-attack mastermind Afzal Guru.
