BJP’s Chandrapur MP Hansraj Ahir, credited with exposing multi-crore coal blocks allocation scam in 2012, is now being awarded with a berth in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet. Hansraj Ahir will most probably head the Coal Ministry. Ahir played a very important role in exposing the coal blocks allocation scam or Coalgate, as referred by the media, by providing vital inputs to Probe Committee set up by the Central Government in this regard. In the recently held Lok Sabha elections, BJP-led NDA under Narendra Modi, carved out an astounding victory. Riding on Modi tsunami, Ahir won the Chandrapur seat with handsome margin. Now, Ahir is being included in the Cabinet and will undoubtedly the Coal Minister.
Hansraj Ahir’s contribution in hiking compensation paid by Central Government for acquiring land for coal mining is widely appreciated in Chandrapur or for that matter across the country. Earlier, the land holders were used to be paid a pittance in the name of compensation for their lands acquired for coal mining. But with Ahir’s initiative, Central Government has now increased the rate as Rs 8-12 lakh per acre. Similarly, members of land holders who possessed the land above two acres, are being offered jobs in Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL) with the initiative of Hansraj Ahir, the fourth consecutive time Member of Parliament from Chandrapur.
It may be recalled, Hansraj Ahir was chosen as one of the Icons by a British magazine in 2013.
