Man sustains injuries, undergoing treatment at Gadchandur Rural Hospital



Nagpur: A case of police brutality with a villager in Chandrapur district has come to fore, where the cops not only beat up the man mercilessly, but also tonsured his head with a knife. In the process, the skin on the scalp was peeled off. The incident occurred at Ambezhari village of Manikgarh hillocks under the jurisdiction of Pitiguda police station in Jiwti tehsil of Chandrapur district on Saturday night.

According to information, there was a complaint against Devidas Kandalwar, a resident of Ambezhari village of creating ruckus in an inebriated condition. A team of Pitiguda police led by API Anil Aalande reached his village where he was sleeping in his house. Villagers told Nagpur Today, that API Aalande dragged Devidas out of his house and beat him up with baton. API Aalande, who according to villagers was also under the influence of liquor, then took out a button operated knife from his pocket and started removing Devidas’ hairs using full force. In the cruel act, the scalp of Devadas’s head was peeled off and he started bleeding profusely.

The police then removed the blood stains with Devidas’ T-shirt and later admitted him to Rural Hospital, Gadchandur. After the incident, Devidas’ brother and other family members were in state of shock and fear, who gathered at the hospital.

It may be noted that Chandrapur is prohibited district. In this backdrop, how a senior cop was drunk, is the question raised by villagers. Devidas’ family and the villagers have demanded stern action against API Aalande.

Till filing of this report, Devidas was undergoing treatment. However, the details of this condition were not known.
