CA’s role in financial discipline indispensable Piyush Goyal

Nagpur: Chartered accountants and government departments should work hand in hand for development of our country, said Union Minister for Railways and Coal Piyush Goyal during his maiden visit to Nagpur branch of ICAI. The potential of CA’s, duly recognised in ensuring financial discipline in government department, would give more strength to status of CA’s as partners in nation building, he said.

GST was the most challenging task to be implemented in a country with vivid classes like India. Many countries in entire world failed to implement GST smoothly. But in India, credit goes to the chartered accountants fraternity for guiding and ensuring good implementation in a short span of time he added.

Goyal also explained government’s stand on GST and said he is hopeful that all tax problems of trade and industry will be resolved in due course of time.

Goyal, who himself was a ranker in CA exams, also addressed a section of CA students, where he motivated them to inculcate values like honesty, transparency and integrity with an attitude of serving the country in any capacity. He said that most of the exams can be cleared with positive mindset and commitment.

Suren Duragkar, Chairman Nagpur branch, welcomed Goyal and said that CA’s are excelling in all fields and elaborated remarkable work done by chartered accountants in other fields like politics’, police department, bureaucracy. Duragkar said many CA’s have become IAS and IPS and brought glory to the CA fraternity.

He appraised about the issues faced by the assesee in GST implementation to which Goyal addressed point wise. Duragkar also raised the issue in transparency in allotment of audit in banking and other sector. He emphasised on audit of government local bodies, railways, etc. to which Goyal gave assured implementation of various suggestions in this regard.

Regional Council Member Abhijit Kelkar said it was privilege for Nagpur branch that Goyal himself visited the branch and showed the humbleness towards his fraternity. CA’s can prove to be an asset for government if their services are utilised in government sectors, he added.

Julfesh Shah, former Vice chairman WIRC thanked the Union Minister for his presence and guidance. He also assured Goyal of wholehearted support and assistance from the CA fraternity in all the responsibilities given to them in time to come.
