A final year student at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, whom police suspected as one of the accomplices in credit card cloning case that rocked the city few days ago, got an anticipatory bail on Friday in order to avoid arrest. Ambazari police had recently busted the gang involved in theft of credit card pin numbers at the petrol pump and then cloning the card to withdraw huge amount of cash from the respective bank accounts. Narayan Goad a student of Final year in VNIT got an ad-interim anticipatory bail from the court for 7 days.

Sources at Ambazari police investigating the case informed that the main accused and mastermind Vineet Yadav who resided at VNIT hostel was not the college student, however he managed to share hostel room with his friend Manjeet, a VNIT student. Both Vineet’s and Manjeet’s fathers are posted in Air Force and this brought them together. Vineet often used to stay with Manjeet in the latter’s room where the murky plot was weaved.

Police sources further added that Vineet allegedly told Manjeet and Narayan Goad that the money which they would withdraw from people would only move to a bank in Russia and then return to the concerned customer’s account. He convinced both that they would get Rs 500 to Rs 1000 for each withdrawal and also the people would not lose out on their money and hence there would be no crime at the end.

Narayan Goad had not much involvement except for a small role that he played. He used to refuel his bike at Abhyankar Nagar petrol pump where he got friends with the supervisor Nilesh Bhimrao Somkunwar. When Vineet asked Narayan Goad if he knew any petrol pump fellow, he after being convinced of the cock-and-bull story introduced Somkunwar to Vineet, who eventually became one of the accused.

On investigation, the police came to know that Narayan Goad’s father was a retired government servant and his mother was a school teacher. When the cops entered the room on the first day, they smelled foul play as they found an empty case of the card-swapping machine. The empty box had the packing with the address of the addressee which read www.DamaruMarketing.com. It was addressed to Vineet Yadav c/o of Manjeet Singh, VNIT Mining Student, Hostel No 2.

The police are still in search of the mastermind who is at large.
