Nagpur:The Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra Industry & Trade (CAMIT) has warmly welcomed the successful conclusion of the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), terming it a historic milestone in India’s global trade and economic diplomacy.
Dr Dipen Agrawal President – CAMIT stated that the agreement opens vast new opportunities for Indian exporters by providing improved access to one of the world’s largest and most affluent markets comprising 27 European nations. The FTA is expected to significantly benefit key Indian sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, engineering goods, gems and jewellery, and MSME-driven manufacturing, while also encouraging higher foreign direct investment from Europe into India.
“This landmark agreement is not merely about tariff reduction; it represents a strategic economic partnership that integrates Indian industry more closely with advanced global value chains. It will enhance competitiveness, promote technology transfer, and strengthen India’s position in international trade,” CAMIT noted.
The Chamber also highlighted that Indian consumers and industries would benefit from improved access to advanced European machinery, equipment, and technologies, leading to better quality, efficiency, and innovation across sectors.
While welcoming the agreement, CAMIT emphasized the need for capacity-building and support mechanisms for MSMEs to meet European quality, environmental, and compliance standards, so that the benefits of the FTA are broad-based and inclusive.
Dr Agrawal expressed its deep appreciation to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to strengthening India’s global economic engagement. The Chamber also thanked Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, for his determined and strategic negotiations that culminated in this path-breaking trade agreement.
“This FTA reflects India’s confidence on the global stage and reinforces the nation’s transition from a cost-driven economy to a quality-driven export powerhouse,” Dr Dipen Agrawal said.
The Chamber further stated that the India–EU FTA would play a vital role in diversifying India’s export markets, reducing dependency on limited geographies, and creating new employment opportunities, thereby contributing meaningfully to India’s long-term growth and economic resilience.
CAMIT looks forward to working closely with the Government of India to ensure effective implementation of the agreement and to enable Maharashtra’s industry and trade sector to fully leverage the opportunities arising from this historic pact.
