Acting of a tip off the Nagpur unit of Maharashtra ATS raided a house in Chindwara Dist. in Madhya Pradesh and seized a huge amount of explosives. They also arrested two persons in the case.

Since Chindwara is a hub of the Naxals of Central India, it is believed that the ammunition and explosives found in the house belonging to one Kaushal Madankar was meant to be used for naxal activities. Since the tip off about the explosives was received by Maharashtra police they took the help of M.P. police since the house lies in an area of their jurisdiction.

In the raid conducted on Friday morning ATS recovered detonators, 612 sticks of Kelvex power 90 Class 2 explosives, an 840 foot detonating rod , exploder and other such equipment. The two men arrested have been identified as Mukesh Sankhla 30, and Rajmal Sankhla 40. They are currently being interrogated to find out where the explosive material was sourced from and where and when it was going to be used. The two men are from Rajasthan and are suspected of having Naxalite links.

The Maharashtra unit of ATS based in Nagpur had received a specific tip that such contraband could be found in a house in Pandhurna town of the Chindwara Dist. – this town lies in the midst of two taluka places of Maharashtra and is just 10 Kms from the inter state border. This area is notorious for the presence of smugglers, terrorists and dacoits since it is a heavily wooded and hilly terrain.

The Maharashtra ATS have said “it is known that Naxals procure their fire arms from M.P. based underground explosives factories. Many explosives are used by Mining Contractors and the surplus dumped. Maoist cadre based in Chattisgarh and Jharkhand have the same suppliers of explosives and fire arms based in MP”said an officer currently posted in the Gadchiroli district.

ATS Chief additional DG Himanshu Roy confirmed the Naxal link and said there was no reason for such a huge cache of ammuntion to be found in that area otherwise. He said they are investigating the matter further and more details could be divulged only after a thorough probe.
