Setting the stage for general elections in action, Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) candidate Dr. Mohan Gaikwad filed his nomination on Thursday at the collector’s office here. This is the first nomination from Nagpur Lok Sabha seat, filed by one of the big parties. Dr. Gaikwad kick started the procession to file his papers from RBI square here along with over 1000 supporters.

Following this development, Congress candidate Vilas Muttemwar will be filing nomination on Friday, March 21 while BJP candidate Nitin Gadkari will head for nomination the next day i.e. on March 22.

Debuting in election fray with his first stint, Dr Mohan Gaikwad boasts of clean image and strives to make the politics corruption free in order to drive more youth towards this field. Contrary to his counterparts, Dr. Gaikwad is seen as the young face with fresh ideas focused at bringing the real change. Having spent 20 years as an educationist leading Gaikwad-Patil Group of Institutions in Nagpur, Dr. Gaikwad has his roots firm in Nagpur.

After submitting his nomination papers the Centralized Election Commission office, Dr. Gaikwad spoke to Nagpur Today in which he delved into his future course of action.  He contended that no major political party in the city has nominated any person from the OBC. “Therefore I consider myself very lucky to represent the OBC in the coming Lok Sabha elections. He added more than 50 per cent of the city belongs to OBC category.  He Gaikwad said that his experience of teaching in an engineering college made him aware of the need for education among the OBC youth.

He said today there is an urgent need for development in various sectors in the city, especially in the industrial sector i.e. MIHAN, where even power is severed, and only two roads are present. There is an urgent need to look after many other aspects to ensure MIHAN develops, many industries set up operations there, and city youths get jobs there besides growth in related aspects.

He said that if elected, education and creating job opportunities will be one of my primary goals. He said that instead of putting alms, one should educate the youth. This will ensure that he or she will find a suitable livelihood. Dr. Gaikwad said that he is pained about various pressing issues of farmers in Vidarbha.

He reiterated. “As a BSP candidate, I will strive for the Separate Vidarbha issue. Since BSP is committed to encourage the establishment and development of smaller states. Separate Vidarbha will be my first priority issue. It is economically, physically and politically viable to bring Vidarbha as separate state. “It will be easier for administrators to take vital decisions for various developments immediately,” he added.
