Nagpur: The political atmosphere in Kamptee has turned highly volatile following allegations of large-scale bogus voting during the Kamptee Municipal Council elections. Sulekha Kumbhare, President of the Bahujan Republican Ekta Manch, launched a scathing attack on the BJP and Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule during a press conference held at the Press Club, Civil Lines, Nagpur.
Kumbhare asserted that her party has no alliance with the BJP and accused Bawankule of becoming “desperate for power.” She alleged that the election process in Kamptee was blatantly manipulated, leading to a mockery of democracy.
Levelling serious allegations, Kumbhare claimed that on December 2, a large number of fake voters were brought in from outside and allowed to cast votes using forged identity cards.
“The democratic system was trampled upon. What happened in Kamptee is an insult to the election machinery. We demand an immediate high-level inquiry,” she said.
Demand for Bawankule’s resignation
Kumbhare accused Bawankule of direct involvement in orchestrating the bogus voting operation. “There is evidence of pressure tactics, threats to voters, and distribution of money, all conducted under BJP’s direction. Bawankule should resign immediately,” she said.
“Ajay Agrawal is a BJP broker”
In the Kamptee election, BJP fielded Ajay Agrawal, while Ajay Kadam contested from Bahujan Republican Ekta Manch. Kumbhare claimed that BJP engaged in open bribery and intimidation throughout the campaign.
“Votes were bought openly. Ajay Agrawal is nothing but a broker for the BJP,” she alleged.
Complaint to Election Commission
Condemning the entire episode, Kumbhare said she has written to the Election Commission demanding strict action. She also warned of approaching the court if the accused are not punished.
The political confrontation in Kamptee appears set to intensify further, with the battle for the post of Municipal Council President now at the center of an escalating storm.
