Bid to extort Rs 50 lakh from a doctor in Shivaji Nagar

Nagpur: A sensational incident in which a bid was made to extort Rs 50 lakh from a reputed doctor has come to the fore in Ambazari police jurisdiction. Cops have registered a case against unidentified person(s) and started investigations.

A resident of Flat No. 502, Lotus Apartment, Shivaji Nagar, Dr Ashish Chaudhary (44) first received a letter around 10.15 am on February 8 demanding Rs 50 lakh ‘hapta’ and a threat to kill his entire family if the demand is not met. However, the Chaudhary family did not take the letter seriously. But three days later, on February 11, a phone call was received by Dr Chaudhary’s wife Sapna and the caller, in a threatening voice, asked her have they not read the letter. The unidentified caller repeated the threat to kill entire family if Rs 50 lakh is not paid immediately. Scared by the demand and the threats, Dr Chaudhary approached Ambazari cops and lodged a complaint in this regard.
