Nagpur: Before you set out for a ride on your two-wheeler on Tuesday, do not forget to carry your helmet along or else be ready to face the fire! Hitting back after a short break, the Traffic Department in Nagpur is expected to be active on helmet checking drive in Nagpur from Tuesday.
During the last drive, 12,770 offenders were ticketed in February under the pro-helmet drive, that lasted till February 7. Around 7,000 two wheeler riders were ticketed for not wearing helmets on the first day of the drive.
However no awareness campaign was carried out to inform the citizens about the helmet compulsion. Following public outcry, the pro-helmet drive was relaxed to give some time to citizens to purchase helmets.
However, around 100-200 erring riders were still being ticketed everyday in the city. According to information, 15,170 riders were ticketed in last two months.
Traffic department informed that starting Tuesday, the pro-helmet drive will restart with invigorated vigour. Following public outcry, the pro-helmet drive was relaxed to give some time to citizens to purchase helmets.
