New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India today faced criticism on Twitter after they referred to former India skipper and coach Anil Kumble as just a ‘former bowler’ when they wished him on his 47th birthday.

“Here’s wishing former #TeamIndia bowler @anilkumble1074 a very happy birthday,” the BCCI had tweeted.

However, this didn’t go well with the fans, who took offence and forced the board to delet the tweet.

“Umm bowler? Wasnt he also Captain and Coach and is India’s leading Wicket taker?,” one tweet said.

“Such is an influence of Virat Kohli that even BCCI forgot Anil Kumble was once the Indian captain and coach, as well,” said one Twitter user.

“He was the captain of the team ! Give him the due respect!,” said another Twitter user.

Later, the BCCI tweeted another message calling him “former captain” and “legend”.

“Here’s wishing a very happy birthday to former #TeamIndia Captain Mr. Anil Kumble #Legend #HappyBirthdayJumbo,” the BCCI said in a fresh tweet.

The row follows Kumble’s acrimonious departure as national coach in June, when he quit saying his relationship with captain Virat Kohli was “untenable”.
