Banwarilal Purohit is new Governor of Tamil Nadu

President Ram Nath Kovind, on Saturday, appointed Banwarilal Purohit as the new Governor of Tamil Nadu. Ch. Vidyasagar Rao has held additional responsibility for Tamil Nadu till now.

Mr. Kovind appointed Brig. (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd.) as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Satya Pal Malik as the Governor of Bihar, Jagdish Mukhi as the Governor of Assam and Ganga Prasad as the Governor of Meghalaya.

Mr. Purohit is presently the Governor of Assam.
Banwarilal Purohit

A public personality inseparably involved in social, political, educational and industrial fields of Vidarbha in Maharashtra, Purohit had plunged into active politics in 1977.

He had won election in Maharashtra Assembly for the first time in 1978 from Nagpur east seat, was re—elected in 1980 from Nagpur south and became a minister in 1982.

In 1984 and 1989, Purohit was elected to the Lok Sabha from Nagpur-Kamptee seat and was a member of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of Defence Ministry.

He was re-elected from the Lok Sabha seat in 1996 and served as a member of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Home Affairs, Member of Standing Committee on Defence and Member of Public Sector Undertaking Committee.

Purohit is also credited with revival of ‘The Hitavada’, an English daily founded by Gopal Krishna Gokhale, the mentor of Mahatma Gandhi.

Under him ‘The Hitavada’ became a leading newspaper of central India and apart from its headquarters edition at Nagpur the daily also launched editions from Jabalpur, Raipur, and Bhopal.
Ganga Prasad

Mr. Ganga Prasad was elected for the first time as the Member of Legislative Council, MLC in Bihar in 1994. He remained as MLC for 18 years.

He has served in various capacities such as the the leader of the BJP in the Legislative Council, Shri Ganga Prasad has also been the leader of the opposition for five years in the Legislative Council.During the earlier NDA regime , he served as the leader of the Bihar Legislative Council for the ruling party and subsequently as the Deputy leader of the ruling party.
Admiral DK Joshi

Admiral (Devendra Kumar Joshi) was Chief of Naval Staff from 31 Aug 2012 to 26 Feb 2014. Born on July 04, 1954, Vice Admiral Joshi had his schooling from Almora and Nainital.

He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (NDA) and was commissioned on April 01, 1974 in the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy. He is graduate of the prestigious US Naval War College and an alumnus of Mumbai’s College of Naval Warfare.

Joshi has been awarded the Param Vishist Seva Medal, the Ati Vishist Seva medal, Yudh Seva Medal, Nau Sena Medal and the Vishist Seva Medal. Admiral Joshi has served as Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Island Command, and Chief of the Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee. He has also worked as Defence Adviser in the Indian High Commission in Singapore from 1996 to 1999. He also commanded the Vizag-based Eastern Fleet of the Navy.
Jagdish Mukhi

Mr. Jagdish Mukhi was born on 1st December 1942 at Dajal, Dera Ghazi Khan of Punjab, now in Pakistan. He graduated in commerce from Raj Rishi College, Alwar (Rajasthan).

In 1967, he did his M.Com from Shri Ram College of Commerce of Delhi University.

Shri Jagdish Mukhi took to active politics since 25th June, 1975 when emergency was clamped. He has been representing Janak Puri constituency continuously from 1980 and has won seven times from the same constituency.

Mr. Jagdish Mukhi has earlier held the portfolios of Finance, Planning, Excise & Taxation and Higher Education in the Delhi Government. He is credited with working extensively for the welfare of citizens of Delhi.

He was leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly from 1998-2008.

He was awarded as Best Finance & Planning Minister by the then Planning Minister, Shri Pranab Mukherjee in year 1997. He was also awarded as best MLA by the then Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Manohar Joshi in year 2002.

Presently, he is the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Brigadier (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retired)

Dr. B. D. Mishra retired from the Indian Army on July 31, 1995 as Brigadier, after an illustrious career in the Forces, beginning as a permanent regular infantry officer, on December 17, 1961. He was born on July 20, 1939.

Dr. Mishra was the Commander of NSG (Black Cat Commandos) Counter Hijack Task Force that assaulted the hijacked aircraft of Indian Airlines and successfully executed the rescue operation, at Raja Sansi Airfield, Amritsar, on April 24, 1993. All 124 travellers and crew members were rescued in the operation, after eliminating the hijackers, without any casualty or damage. Dr. Mishra received the Prime Minister’s appreciation for his role in ending this hijack crisis.

Dr. Mishra has served in various wars and operational roles for the nation:

Against Chinese attack on India (1962)

Against Naga insurgents in Nagaland (1963-1964)

Against Pakistan in Sialkot Sector (1965)

Against Pakistan in Liberation of Bangladesh (1971)

Against Pakistan on LoC in Poonch Sector, as Battalion Commander (1979-1981)

Against LTTE as the Leading Brigade Commander of the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Jaffna, Vavunia and Trincomalee in Sri Lanka (1987-1988)

Against J&K and Punjab terrorists, as NSG Force Commander (1990-1995)

Volunteered for Kargil War, after retirement

He has received Commendation for Gallant Role in Counter Terrorist Operations.

Dr. Mishra holds an MA from Allahabad University, an M.Sc from Madras University and a Ph.D from Jiwaji University, Gwalior. He has five years’ Post Graduate and Graduate level teaching experience in College of Combat at MHOW and in Defence Services Staff College at Wellington.
Satya Pal Malik

Mr. Satya Pal Malik was the Union Minister of State, Parliamentary Affairs and Tourism from 21 April 1990 to 10 November 1990. Born on 24 July 1946, Shri Malik has held many important positions in both Centre and State.

He has been a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) during two terms from 1980 to 1984 and from 1986 to 1989. He was a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from 1989 to 1990. Shri Malik was also Member of Uttar Pradesh Assembly from 1974 to 1977. He has also been the Chairman and member of many important Parliamentary Committees during his long political career.

Mr. Malik completed his B.Sc and LL.B from Meerut University and holds a Diploma in Parliamentary Affairs from Institute of Constitutional & Parliamentary Studies run by Parliament of India.

Mr. Satya Pal Malik is also an agriculturist, and active social worker with an experience of over 50 years in social development.
