Nagpur News: Senior Corporator of BJP Balya Borkar on Monday took the charge as Chairman of Standing Committee for 2014-15 in the presence of BJP Maharashtra Unit President Devendra Fadnavis, Mayor Anil Sole, East Nagpur MLA Krishna Khopde, office-bearers of NMC and others. Balya Borkar took the charge from outgoing Chairman Avinash Thakre.

Earlier, Balya Borkar was unanimously elected Chairman of the Standing Committee and was felicitated by the dignitaries present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Devendra Fadnavis said, “Balya Borkar has been assigned the crucial responsibility in the period of code of conduct phases that would run for about seven months due to Lok Sabha, Assembly elections. Balya is BJP’s Arjun. And like Arjun, who fought bravely against the all adversities and emerged successful, Balya would have to face challenges of city’s development at the time of less revenue in the coming seven months of code of conduct. Balya will also emerge successful in developing the city despite fund crunch,” said a confident Fadnavis.

Fadnavis further said, “BJP has the age old tradition of giving higher posts to common workers according to their works of merit. Nitin Gadkari, Anil Sole and even me worked as common workers of BJP. Balya’s speciality is that nobody in his Ward complains about him. It means Balya strives hard to resolve their problems. After considering Balya’s daring and short tempered nature, I would advise him to work for city’s development calmly but daringly and complete the goals of BJP. The newly elected Chairman of Standing Committee has a golden opportunity and also challenge to increase revenue of NMC despite seven months of code of conduct. After the phase of code of conduct is over, Balya will have to throw his full might for development of the city. And I am confident Balya Borkar will emerge successful in efforts. Assembly elections are slated during Balya’s tenure. If BJP comes to power, LBT will be smashed,” said Fadnavis.

The Opposition Leader in NMC Vikas Thakre said, “Every new Chairman of Standing Committee brings with him new plans and strategies for development of the city. The Chairman tries hard to accomplish the goals he had planned. Sometimes, development works remain incomplete during his tenure. Balya Borkar, previously also as Chairman of Octroi Committee had done an outstanding work. Therefore, expectations from Balya Borkar are on higher side. I will cooperate Balya Borkar till I am Opposition Leader but at the same time, I will raise my voice whenever shortcomings are noticed by me,” warned Vikas Thakre.

Mayor Anil Sole, MLAs Krishna Khopde, Vikas Thakre, Ruling Party Leader Pravin Datke and others also addressed the function.

In his introductory speech, the outgoing Chairman of Standing Committee Avinash Thakre thanked the party, senior leaders for giving him a chance to serve the city and NMC. He also thanked the NMC Administration, all office-bearers, Corporators for their cooperation during his tenure as Chairman of Standing Committee.
