Bajrang Dal tries to disturb communal harmony; attacks, abuses family of minority community

    nagpur-news-crimeNagpur News.

In a blatant move to disrupt the communal harmony of Nagpur, a group of 70-80 Bajrang Dal activists attacked the members of a family belonging to a minority community here. The agitated community members have strongly condemned the incident and demanded stern action agains the saffron brigade hooligans. The members of the family including husband, wife, son and daughter-in-law were offering prayers at their house along with their religious leader when the mob barged into their house and hurled abuses on the praying members. They also threatened the members saying that police would not take any action.

While the hooligans were about to attack the religious leader and the male members of the family, a lady from the locality shouted at the attackers who fled the scene sensing alarm.

Ironically, when the members approached Panchpaoli police, they had the harrowing experience in getting the FIR registered.

On February 13, 2014, Nahane aged 35, his wife, son and daughter-in-law had arranged a prayer meeting at their residence at Dheewar Mohalla in Itwari-Maskasath area. They had called their religious leader V N Gaikwad to offer prayers. Gaikwad had come along with his wife to offer prayers and speak about the religious teachings. After the prayers, when they were having their dinner, a group of 70 to 80 alleged activists of Bajrang Dal headed by one Manoj Thakre and Chandu Thakre along with few people from the vicinity stormed Nahane’s house and objected to the prayers. They also cited dominance of one community and hence their community cannot offer prayers.

The family members conducted a press conference on Tuesday, which was attended by Nahane’s daughter-in-law Kavita, religious leader Sudhir Martin, advocate Bawar along with Gaikwad and his wife.

The members also alleged that they had hurled expletives at the women and other family members and also threatened to kill them. They had allegedly threatened to even burn the house.

This was not the first time such a prayer meeting was held in the house. There had been such meetings in the past too. However this time somebody had rang the Bajrang Dal and had summoned them there.

PI Bele trying to protect accused

After the attacker left the area, the victimized family members went to the Panchpaoli police station where the police station In-charge PI Bele asked the duty officer to file a NC case, while the victimized family demanded an FIR. Even after repeated requests they did not file an FIR. Irked by this the victims went to DCP Waghmare. DCP Waghmare rang the Police Inspector in front of the victims to register an FIR but he did not file an FIR. When no FIR was lodged, the victims went to Additional Commissioner Sanjay Saxena. He too ordered the PI of Pachpoli Police Station to register an FIR against the alleged culprits, yet again the PI refused to lodge an FIR against them for reasons best known to him. Finally, the victims and their family members went to the Commissioner of Police Pathak.

The Commissioner of Police ordered the PI of Panchpoli police station to immediately register an FIR against the alleged accused. This time, they did file an FIR. However in-spite of registering an FIR, no arrests has been made as yet. The sections under which the FIR was registered calls for immediate arrest of the accused, however Bele is deliberately delaying the action.

PI Bele of Pachpaoli Police Station refused all allegations alleged by the victimized family. PI Bele claimed that the Nahane family members have been continuously changing their statements. He added that police did take suitable action based on the statement given by the victimized family on February 13, 2014. He claimed that the family members never mentioned about manhandling the female members of the family. They had just reported about the verbal threats issued by the activists of Bajrang Dal on February 13, 2014, therefore based on their complaint, the police registered a non-cognizable offence against the accused.

They also have demanded strict action against those attending to the Police emergency number 100 in the night of February 13, 2014 as no one picked up their call despite helplessly dialing at the number.
