Nagpur/Gondia: In a curious incident, six cops were suspended for ‘doing nothing’ to prevent a scratch on the official car of District Superintendent of Police.

It all happened when Gondia District Superintendent of Police Vinita Sahu reached the guest house the other day. Her official car was parked in front of the guest house under protection of guards. Since Gondia district is under Naxal-affected category, security is tight. The six policemen – constables Pankaj Pandey, Chamanlal Netam, sepoys Rohit Chavan, Suresh Chavan, Kailash Kalapar and Chhotelal Bisen – were deployed on duty at the guest house.

During the same time, an unidentified person dented a scratch on the official car of the SP. The scratch was spotted by SP Vinita Sahu when she was boarding her car. Furious over the scratch, Sahu ordered a prob. Preliminary enquiry and departmental probe found the six cops negligent in their duty. Immediately action was initiated against the six policemen under Section 3(A2)(1A)(1B) of Bombay Police (Punishments and Appeals) Rules, 1956, and orders were issued to suspend them.

The suspended six policemen have been attached to Arjuni Morgaon Police Station and directed to register their presenty daily in the morning and evening. Signing in register is mandatory or else salary and dearness allowance would not be paid.

During the suspension period, the six policemen have been barred from doing any private job or business. If found, they will be considered guilty under Section 16 of Maharashtra Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1979 and disciplinary action would be initiated against them. The suspended policemen have been directed to surrender their weapons, identity cards and other official material to Police Headquarters Gondia immediately.
