Authorities to curb refuelling cars acquired for transporting VIPs during Winter Session

Nagpur: The Vehicles Management Department which has been tasked with arranging 1200 vehicles for the transport of Ministers and Bureaucrats during the forthcoming Winter Session has now set new rules and regulations. Sources claimed that a total of 3500 vehicles are needed to be acquired from all government offices this year.

This year, the Divisional Commissionerate has set in new rules for the use of vehicles by Ministers and Bureaucrats during the forthcoming Winter Session.

  • The government vehicle will be refuelled only one in fifteen days.
  • The government vehicle cannot be taken outside the city limits.
  • The government vehicle cannot be used on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) since they are on leave.

Sources said that last year, the office of the Divisional Commissioner had refuelled 1157 government cars with petrol or diesel worth Rs 71, 33,000/- (Rupees Seventy One Lakhs Thirty Three Thousand).

It was also observed that the Ministers and Bureaucrats had taken official vehicles outside the city limits to resorts, farmhouses and wild-life sanctuaries.

With an aim to curb the wasteful expenses, the Divisional Commissioner has decided to enforce the above rules for use of vehicles by Ministers and Bureaucrats.

A total of 100 vehicles have been acquired so far. It is worth mentioning here that the department often faces tough time acquiring vehicles from various government officials.
