Nagpur: Following visits by French Development Agency delegation and a 14-member Chinese delegation to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), the Consul General of Australia Mark Peers paid a goodwill visit and evinced keen interest in the projects being undertaken by the local body. The Public Diplomacy Officer Alia Elaris accompanied the Consul General. The Deputy Mayor Munna Pokulwar, Standing Committee Chairman Ramesh Shingare, Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, Senior Corporator Sunil Agrawal, and others welcomed the Australian Consul General and his team by offering them bouquets in a small function held at Main Administrative Building of NMC. Deputy Commissioner Z R Siddiqui, Addl Deputy Commissioner Pramod Bhusari, Superintending Engineer Prakash Urade, Tax Assessor Shashikant Hastak, Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Dhamecha and others were present on the occasion.
Municipal Commissioner while giving a power-point presentation informed the delegation about NMC’s geographic and historic importance. Similarly, he dealt upon NMC’s plan to make the city environmentally sustainable and beautiful and clean city. The Chinese delegation was also apprised of NMC’s various other projects such as sewage management with Mahagenco’s help, Nag River cleaning, replacement of streetlights with energy saving LED lights, Orange City streetlight scheme, NMC’s web portal, online service, various services through GIS Mapping, Electricity Saving Day on full moon nights etc.
Hardikar also informed the Consul General about Nagpur being selected as Model Solar City and the widespread use of solar energy in Government buildings.
The Australian Consul General praised the projects being undertaken by NMC and said that many cities of India will be visited and Australia will help in carrying out development activities.
