ATM fraud: Conmen pilfer Rs 1.80 lakh from SBI accounts of 3 persons

Nagpur: In three cases of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) fraud, conmen pilfered over Rs 1.80 lakh from accounts of three persons. Interestingly, the amount was withdrawn from same ATM situated at Bhole Petrol Pump in Dharampeth at the same period of time. It is being suspected that the miscreants swindled money using devices called ‘Skimmers’ attached to the ATM machines or by other tricks.

In the first incident, Abdul Rashid Abdul Hafeez Qureshi (65), resident of Mominpura, behind Kamal Baba Dargah, having SBI ATM card was at his home. Similarly, a woman named Sunanda Nandurkar was also at her house. Both Abdul Rashid and Sunanda received messages on their mobile phones that a total of Rs 1.23 lakh was withdrawn from ATM situated at Bhole Petrol Pump in Dharampeth between 11.54 pm of Tuesday and 0003 hours of Wednesday by unidentified miscreants.

In the same case of fraud, a resident of Shravan Nagar, Vathoda Layout, Nandanvan, Sohanlal Sugriv Gautam (20) lost Rs 78,500 as probably the same the conmen pilfered the amount from his SBI account from the same ATM situated at Bhole Petrol Pump in Dharampeth between 11.58 pm of Tuesday and 0004 hours of Wednesday.

Curiously, all the three cases of ATM fraud occurred at the same period of time. The conmen could have used Net banking or other technology to commit the frauds. Together the three victims had lost around Rs.1.80 lakh.

Sitabuldi police constable Vithole, based on complaints of Abdul Rashid Abdul Hafeez Qureshi, Sunanda Nandurkar and Sohanlal Gautam, registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC read with Sections 66C, 66 of Information Technology Act and launched a search to nab the miscreants.
