In another shocking incident, an ASI committed suicide by hanging self. This is the second suicide by a cop in a span of one week. The deceased is identified as Assistant Police Inspector Gautam Vithoba Chahande who committed suicide by hanging by a small nylon packing rope from the hook of the door frame in the NCC Air-Wing Barracks behind NMC office on October 3, 2014.
ASI Gautam Vithoba Chahande was on Guard Duty of the Air-Wing Barracks where the Dummy Guns are kept. He had committed suicide by hanging from the nylon packing rope and pushing himself off the steel folding chair on which he must have stood. Some of his fellow staff said that he complained of severe stomach pain.
It could be recalled that a Police Constable had committed suicide in the premises of Sadar Police Station on Monday morning by shooting himself with his SLR Carbine on September 29, 2014. This incident sent shock waves across city police department. The deceased Police Constable was identified as Sonu Parkhe, aged 27, was deployed on guard duty in Sadar police station.
