Mumbai: The Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), led by Prakash Ambedkar, has announced its first list of 11 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, including a transgender candidate.
Speaking at a press conference in Mumbai on Saturday, VBA chief Prakash Ambedkar said that Shamibha Patil, a transgender from the Leva Patil community, will contest the Raver Assembly seat in Jalgaon district.
Meanwhile, Savita Mundhe, representing the Vanjari community, has been fielded from the Sindkhed Raja seat.
Elections for the 288-member state assembly are expected to take place in mid-November.
