Nagpur: It is the height of inaction on the part of NMC babus! Nagpurians, who are already suffering the brunt of heatwave and power cuts, now the raging mosquito menace has been hounding them and forcing them to spend sleepless nights. Despite reports highlighting the mosquito buzz in several parts of the Second Capital, the NMC authorities refuse to take corrective actions to repel the attacks by the tiny enemy. The annual ordeal continues to torment Nagpurians with no end in sight.
Heaps of garbage, uncleaned gutters, drainage lines are breeding grounds for the biting species of insect. Swarms of mosquitoes, as a result, invade the residences and offices with the day break itself. Evenings and nights are unbearable. The sweltering heat is conducive to an army of mosquitoes and the enemy spares no area from its attack. The enemy is active 24 hours but the authorities of Nagpur Municipal Corporation turn a deaf ear to the buzzing music.
With summer, every home has coolers in place. And the water in the coolers turns breeding ground for mosquitoes and the enemy grows in staggering numbers. The NMC babus seldom wake up from their slumber and resort to fogging operations in one part or another in the city. Multiple places in the city facing an onslaught of the winged insect.
Stagnant water in nullahs across Nagpur have turned into a breeding ground for mosquitoes. In the nights, the situation is such that people are covering almost their entire body or rubbing insect repellant on the exposed parts before sleeping. At several places the stagnant pools of water, formed by water leaking from taps and flowing off roadside eateries are making the situation worse.
With this awful situation, the risk of getting infected with dreaded diseases – malaria, dengue, chikungunya – has increased manifold and the hapless citizens are looking to Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Health Department of State Government for relief. Demand for use of fogging machines is being voiced by citizens from many areas.
