Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on Independence Day didn’t inspire Arvind Kejriwal. The Chief Minister of Delhi was filmed dozing during the address at Red Fort, where he was seated near VIPs like Ghulam Nabi Azad of the Congress.

After social media helpfully pointed out that Mr Kejriwal had been caught napping, Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, suggested the reaction couldn’t be helped. “The speech was boring,” he summarized, quoting a tweet that also snapped union ministers Arun Jaitley and Manohar Parrikar with their eyes closed.

Kejriwal has been at loggerheads with the Centre over transfers, control of police and routing of files. The two sides are locked in legal battles as well. Recently, the high court ruled that the lieutenant governor, who represents the Centre, had the final word on administrative control of Delhi, dealing a blow to the Kejriwal government.
Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party accuses L-G Najeeb Jung of being partisan and trying to destabilise the government at the Centre’s behest.
