Another train mishap in UP at night – 9 injured as per reports obtained till now

Eight coaches of Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Mahakoshal Express have derailed near Mahoba station in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. As per news agency reports, around nine person were injured in the mishap. The Chief Public Relations Officer, North Central Railway said that the accident occurred at 2:07 am.

An accident relief train has been rushed to the site and the injured are being provided with first-aid. Around eight coaches from the rear side of the train derailed between Mahoba and Kulpahar stations, the CPRO said.

Senior officials, including the general manager of North Central Railway M C Chauhan, rushed to the site and rescue operations is underway. However, the cause of the derailment is still not clear.

Railway officials have operationalised helplines at Jhansi, Gwalior, Banda and Nizamuddin stations to disseminate information to relatives of the passengers.

Uttar Pradesh has seen a spate of rail mishaps in recent months, but this is the first since Yogi Adityanath took over as C.M. Speaking at an election rally, even Prime Minister Modi had called the Kanpur rail accident a “conspiracy from across the border”.

The railways have not had a good start to the year. In January, the Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express derailed in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh killing 41 passengers and injuring over 60 others. On March 7, as many as nine persons were injured following a blast in one of the coaches of the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train near Shujalpur in Madhya Pradesh.
