Nagpur: MAHAGENCO’s 3x660MW Koradi TPS has received prestigious National award in the category “Technology Excellence and Design Engineering” for setting up and utilizing tertiary treated sewage water from Bhandewadi Sewage Treatment Plant. Koradi TPS is the only Winner in this category.

The award was given in water optimization 2019 Conference held at Vivanta Taj New Delhi on 3rd May 2019. Koradi Chief Engineer Abhay Harne and Executive Chemist Rajesh Chivane has received this prestigious award from former Secretary Power Government of India Anil Rajdan and Director Mission Energy foundation Ashwin Kumar Khatri.

Sewage of Nagpur City is treated to tune up the desired quality of Koradi Thermal Power Plant. Total 130 MLD raw sewage is treated and utilize in Koradi TPS. This has been a State of Art Project implemented first time in India effectively. This is the Pioneer project of utilizing treated sewage efficiently for ash disposal and condenser cooling purpose.

The award becomes highly outstanding because the entire water data was collected directly from Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and the individual competing plants were not entertained at all in any form for data collection. The award was given on recommendation of jury members.

Majority of Power Plants from all over India including NTPC and Private Power plants participated in the competition. The competition was very stiff looking into the level of Optimization achieved by many Power Plants, especially NTPC’s Thermal Power Plant.

In the conference Rajesh Chivane was invited as a speaker in the conference. He has delivered lecture on Technology adopted for treatment of RAW sewage; such as fine screening and clarification of water in primary treatment, secondary treatment in sequential batch reactor where BOD,COD, suspended solid, nitrate is removed and followed by tertiary treatment for disinfection and removing turbidity in Bhandewadi STP.

Moreover, he also shown presentation on various remedial measures taken by Koradi TPS for water conservation and optimum use of water to meet the statutory norms of Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change (MOEFCC) Notification of 3.5 cubic metre for megawatt hour.

Chief Engineer Koradi 3×660 MW Rajkumar Taskar, thanked all the Top Officials and Director (Operations) Chandrant Thotwe for overwhelming support extended from time to time in water optimization. He also credited the rigorous and timely efforts taken by all employees, sectional heads and middle management of Koradi TPS for rational use of water and achieving zero water discharge.
