In what could be termed as one of the biggest hauls in Vidarbha after the demonetization of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes, the sleuths of Ambazhari Police Station seized Notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 worth Rs 1, 87,50,000/- (Rs one crore 87 lakhs and fifty thousand) seized. The seizure of notes and apprehending of accused was conducted at 9 pm on November 13, 2016.
According to police sources, the sleuths of Detective Branch Squad of Ambazhari Police Station got a secret tip off that some people are trying to dispose off some of the demonetized notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500/- at Hill Top area.
The sleuths followed the lead and have arrested four persons from a vacant flat situated on the first floor Advocate Society, Hill Top, Ramnagar, Nagpur. On preliminary questioning, the four persons did not give satisfactory answers on the ownership of the demonetized notes and where did they get it etc.
Suspecting something fishy, the cops searched the house and found an air-bag full of demonetized notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500/-.
Till the time of filing the report, the cops were still questioning the accused persons and their identity was not disclosed. The denominations of the notes were
Notes of Rs 1000 = Rs 1 crore 72 lakhs
Notes of Rs 500 = Rs 15 lakhs 50thousand.
The team of Ambazhari Police Station who carried out the search and seizure of demonetized notes included Assistant Police Inspector S S Suroshe, Police Sub Inspector Prashant Patankar, Head Constable Nahat Purushotam, Naik Constable Ramshish Yadav, Naik Yogesh Harne, Police Constable Suresh Telekar, Police Constable Baljit Thakur. The operation was conducted under the supervision of In-Charge Police Inspector of Ambazhari Police Station Satish Gorade.
