Alert doctor catches burglar in Ramdaspeth, other thief manages to flee

Nagpur: Alertness on the part of a doctor resulted in the arrest of one of the two thieves who burgled cash, diamond studded rings, platinum and gold jewellery collectively worth Rs 8.25 lakh from his bungalow at Ramdaspeth in Sitabuldi area in the wee hours of Saturday.

According to police, Dr Bhavesh Vasant Barde (40), a resident of 129, Lendra Park, Ramdaspeth, nabbed one of the burglars and handed him over to the police. However, other thief managed to escape with the jewellery and Rs 1.46 lakh cash. The thief caught by Dr Barde has been identified as Anshul Thool of Imambada from whom police recovered Rs 19,000 stolen cash.

Dr Barde, who is attached to Suretech Hospital in Nagpur, was alone in his bungalow as his wife and children had gone out of station. At around 2 am on Saturday, Dr Barde locked his house and went to the hospital to examine a serious patient. After an hour, he returned home and spotted two persons jumping the compound wall of his bungalow. The doctor chased the burglars and caught one of them while the other managed to flee with the booty.

On being informed, staff from Bajaj Nagar and Sitabuldi Police Stations arrived at the spot. Sitabuldi Police took the accused Anshul Thool into custody. According to police, the two burglars gained entry into the bungalow after breaking open the door lock with a screwdriver and a crowbar. The intruders went to the bedroom, collected cash, diamond and platinum rings and gold ornaments. While fleeing with the booty, one of them was caught by Dr Barde.

The escaped accused was identified as Appa alias Shubham Mankar (27), a resident of Imambada. Appa was history-sheeter, having more than 10-12 theft offences registered against him at different police stations. The accused is still at large and is being searched by cops.
