In a shocking incident on Wednesday, Akshay Kumar’s Kesari set in Wai, Maharashtra got burned down in a massive fire, leaving all the crew members in shock. Till now, all we knew is that it happened during a war sequence shoot. However, now there are more details being reported about what really happened to cause the fire. The film, which is based on the historical Battle of Saragarhi of 1987, was being shot in Wai for the past several months.

Talking about the massive fire on location of Kesari, a leading tabloid quoted a source as saying, “Director Anurag Singh was filming a war sequence on location when one of the bombs, being used for the scene, exploded. Within a matter of seconds, the entire set was gutted. Most of the lighting equipment and cameras were lost in the fire. Fortunately, not a single person of the 100-member-strong unit was hurt.”

The source also revealed that the primary actors weren’t were required for the shoot and Akshay had already filmed his portions by late afternoon after which the director started to shoot the war sequence. The makers had recreated the Gulistan Fort – which is one of the key sites of the battle of Saragarhi and now, post the fire, they will again have to recreate the fort, which is another time consuming process. Unfortunately, a major portion remained to be shot over a period of 10 days and therefore, the director cannot make do without recreating the fort. The report suggests that the location may shift from Wai to Mumbai, and the fort will now be set up in Film City in Mumbai.

Parineeti Chopra, who plays the female lead in the film and will be pairing up with Akshay for the first time, has been excited about the project. However, she is yet to start shooting. She had been busy wrapping up a London schedule of Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s Namaste England with Arjun Kapoor all this while. She is slated to join Akshay on the Kesari set in the Mumbai schedule.
