Nagpur News: Air Vice Marshal VS Bharti YSM VM VSM has taken over as Senior Air & Administrative Staff Officer (SAASO), Maintenance Command, Indian Air Force on 11 April 2013. He has taken over the charge from AVM JS Kler who has proceeded to head the Air Wing of Border Security Force.
A highly experienced officer, the AVM Bharti was commissioned into helicopter stream of Indian Air Force on 11 December 1981. He did his schooling in Mumbai and joined National Defence Academy (NDA) in 1978. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and has flown nearly all types of helicopters and trainer aircraft. He has logged more than 5400 hours in every conceivable role. He was actively involved in IPKF Operations at Sri Lanka, for which he was awarded Yudha Seva Medal.
Prior to his posting as SAASO Maintenance Command, IAF he has served as Air Attache at KYIV Ukraine, Director IDC at Air Headquaters, SASO at Air Officer Commanding J & K, Air Officer Commanding Air Force Station Yelahanka and Deputy Commandant Air Force Academy.
The Air Officer has commanded No. 105 Helicopter Unit and No. 19 Forward & Base Support Unit. He is an alumni of National Defence Academy and Defence Service Staff College (DSSC). He has also undergone Naval Higher Command Course at Mumbai. For his exceptional dedication to duty and selfless service, he was awarded Vayu Sena Medal and Vishist Seva Medal.
He is married to Mrs. Sanjana Bharti who is a homemaker. They have one son (Sangam) who is an IT Engineer.
He is a keen sportsman, likes to play golf, volley ball and racquet games. His hobbies include travelling, reading, music and theatre.
