Air Vice Marshal SC Chafekar Ati Vishisht Seva Medal Shaurya Chakra to assume charge of Senior Air and Administrative Staff Officer of Maintenance Command on 01 Jul 2016. He was commissioned in Transport stream of Indian Air Force and during his meritorious service spanning over 33 years, he has flown more than 7000 hrs on various types of aircraft.

The Air Officer is an alumnus of Defence Service Staff College, Wellington. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor with over 3500 instructional hours and an expert in Air Maintenance. He has vast experience in field of Humanitarian assistance and Disaster relief and was main coordinator during Uttarakhand flood relief, Yemen evacuation; J&K flood relief and Nepal Earthquake. He was involved in induction process of C-17 and C-130 aircraft in IAF.

He commanded a Transport Squadron in Northern Sector; he served as Chief Operations Officer of largest Base in IAF and was the Air Officer Commanding of premier transport Station. He has held various operational appointments at Air Headquaters. Prior to his present appointment he was Assistant Chief of Integrated Staff (Financial Planning) at Headquaters Integrated Defence Staff.

The Air Officer was awarded Shaurya Chakra by the President of India for his professional courage and meticulous planning for trail landing at Daulat Beg Oldie and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguished devotion to duty.

Defence PRO Wg Cdr Samir S Gangakhedkar intimated that Air Vice Marshal SC Chafekar belongs to Nagpur and did his Schooling from Tata Parsi High School, Bishop Cotton and Hadas High School. He graduated from Dharampeth Science College. He is son of Late Capt CV Chafekar and Smt Vijaya Chafekar. Late Capt CV Chafekar who is well known to Nagpurians for his service to Society. He conducted free of cost classes for Service Selection Board interview for students aspiring to join defence forces. His more than 800 students are serving the nation as defence Officers.
