Nagpur: ‘Jaichand’ is a ‘cub’ of Jai, and it is as impressive as Jai. Jai has been missing for two years. It’s location is still unknown. In the same way, Jaichand’s location which originally belonged to Paoni (District Bhandara) forest area is not traceable.
It has not been seen in Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary since one and a half years and not seen in Pawni, Nagabhid, Talodhi either. Not only his where about are missing, his foot-steps in the forest are not seen any more. On the other hand, the forest department has not yet started the effective drive to find him.
Jai and Viru were two cubs of a tigress in Nagzira in Gondia district. Jai entered the Karhandla sanctuary and
mated with several tigresses to produce 20 cubs.
The radio collar of ‘Jai’ had also stopped sending signals from April 18, 2016 and since then there is no trace of this majestic tiger. And now even the Jaichand is report-ed missing. It may be noted that the cub had fallen into Gosekhurd canal in January this year due to the negligent attitude of the forest officials. When contacted Range forest officer Baba Raut did not respond to questions for his comment on the disappearance of ‘Jaichand’.
