Nagpur: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is offering 227 programes through Distance Mode. In a Press Meet today, Dr. P. Sivaswaroop, Regional Director of Nagpur Regional Centre said that IGNOU’s Online Admissions are open for January 2018 Session. IGNOU’s 227 programes are at Certificate, Diploma, PG Diploma, Undergraduate and Post Graduate level. All details are given on IGNOU website www.ignou.ac.in. Interested candidates have to fill the Online application form and have to upload the scanned copies of their educational qualification Certificate, Colour Photo, Signature and Caste Certificate (if required). Fees can also be paid online through Credit/Debit Card/Online Transfer.

Dr. Sivaswaroop said that in order to enhance higher education access to different deprived sections of the society, IGNOU offers free education to SC, ST, Prisoners, Transgenders and for Weavers and their children for various programs. Such candidates have to submit “Offline” application, with relevant documents to prove their eligibility for such exemption. The last date for admission is 31st December 2017. He stated that from January 2018 Session, IGNOU will be offering direct admission (without entrance test) to its Management Diploma Programes namely PG Diploma in Human Resource, Marketing, Finance, Operation Management and Financial Market Practices.

He informed that Weavers and their families are showing interest in Computer Literacy Programes. IGNOU is offering free education to Weavers and their families in Bachelors Preparatory Programe and Computer Literacy Programes. By joining with Ministry of Textiles (Government of India), Weavers Service Centre, Nagpur and National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC) IGNOU has organized Awareness – cum – Admission Camps for Weavers at Achalpur (Amravati District), Andhalgaon, Adayal and Mohadi (Bhandara District), Panchgaon (Nagpur District) etc. 17 Weavers and their family members from Andhalgaon village took admission to Computer Literacy Programe. At other places also the process is going on.

Dr. P. Sivaswaroop informed that in continuing their efforts to provide education opportunity to Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs), on Teachers Day (5th September 2017) “Gyan Ganga” Awareness Meeting – cum – Admission Camp was held in association with Red Cross Hospital, Nagpur. Around 70 CSWs attended. 7 CSWs took admission to Bachelors Preparatory Programe (BPP).A series of “Gyan Ganga” activities for Tribals, villagers, transgenders are scheduled in coming months.He further added that IGNOU has been named among icons of Modern India in Social Sector. On the eve of 71st Independence Days and completing 70 years of Independence, India Today has listed 70 Institutions that defined the Nation after Independence. IGNOU has been named as Institution with education doors open to all, but without compromising on the quality.
