Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Nagpur has trapped a Library Assistant of a college for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 for completing the formalities of arrears of a retired employee.

According to police, the complainant Prabhakar Bisanji Nimbarte (68) retired as Library Assistant from Seth Porwal College, Kamptee on 31.10.2006. Since his Sixth Pay arrears of period from January 1 to October 10 were pending, he applied to Joint Director, Higher Education, Nagpur Division for payment of arrears. However, no action was taken on his application. In July 2014, during a work at the Deputy Director’s office, Prabhakar met Padmakar Tukaram Shende, who is also working as Library Assistant in Seth Porwal College, Kamptee. Shende told Prabhakar that if the bill for Earned Leave amounting to Rs 25,000 is to be submitted to higher officials, he will have to pay Rs 10,000. At the same time, Shende took Rs 5,000 from Prabhakar and the balance amount was to be paid after the work was done.

Accordingly, Shende on Wednesday (September 17) called Prabhakar at office of Joint Director, Higher Education, Nagpur Division. There, the ACB sleuths laid a trap and caught Padmakar Shende red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 5,000 from Prabhakar Nimbarte. An offence under relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at Sitabuldi Police Station. Further probe is underway.
