ACB nabs Group Education Officer, 2 others red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 1,000

Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Nagpur caught a Group Education Officer and two others red-handed while accepting a bribe amount of Rs 1,000 on Friday (August).

According to ACB, the action was undertaken on the basis of a complaint lodged by a suspended teacher. The teacher’s medical bill amounting to Rs 37,580 and other pending bill of Rs 97,000 were sanctioned. However, for further course of action and sending the bills to Zilla Parishad, Nagpur, the accused Pradnya Pravin Thombre, Group Education Officer, Panchayat Samiti Narkhed, District Nagpur (Rural) demanded a bribe of Rs 1000 from the suspended teacher. But he, instead of giving the bribe amount, straightaway approached the ACB in Nagpur and lodged a complaint in this regard against the Group Education Officer Thombre.

Subsequently, the ACB sleuths laid a trap in Panchayat Samiti, Eduaction Department, Narkhed. The ACB sleuths later found the accused Pradnya Pravin Thombre and Anil Chaudhari, Office Superintendent demanding Rs 1000 as bribe from the complainant. Both the accused accepted the bribe through a middleman named Sagar Prabhakar Patil (18), resident of Sidharth Nagar, Narkhed. At the same time, the waiting ACB sleuths pounced upon the accused and caught them red-handed while accepting the bribe. Later, an offence under relevant Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was registered with Narkhed Police Station and further probe was initiated.

The action was undertaken by ACB’s Police Inspector Bharat Kshirsagar, Manoj Gabhne, Vinod Dighore, Constables Dharmendra Kale, Santosh Pundkar, Woman Constable Komal Gujar, Driver Manohar Doifode under the directives of Prakash Jadhav, DCP/SP ACB, Nagpur and Vasant Shirbhate, Additional SP.
