Aam Aadmi Party had on Saturday sought some time from the sessions court here to file their reply in the defamation case filed against them by Nitin Gadkari owned Purti Sugar Mills. Authorities from Purti Group approached the court after AAP’s Anjali Damania alleged Gadkari’s involvement in series of scams including loan waiver to farmers under Purti Cooperative Society. The court posted the next hearing in the case to April 9.

On March 1 this year, Anjali Damania reached Gadkari’s residence and handed over few documents claiming the latter is involved in scams. At that time Damania claimed that large scale corruption was practiced at Purti’s office.

Damania charged Gadkari with cheating the farmers by not giving them compensation as per the market rate. Damania claimed that she had evidence regarding the fraud of Purti group. According to Damania, Purti sugar industry purchased sugarcane from a Wardha farmer Shyamrao Satpute but did not pay him proper compensation.

Reacting to the allegation, Purti Group lodged a complaint against her in Ganeshpeth police station. However, when no action was taken in this matter, Purti group moved to the court. Purti Group has purchased the Wardha sugar factory in 2004. The Group in its petition said that the allegation of cheating farmers against the Purti sugar industry was Incorrect and baseless. Purti Group also mentioned that Damania was intentionally and consciously tried to tarnish the image of Nitin Gadkari and presenting false proofs against Purti sugar industry. Purti Group also demanded to register criminal offence against AAP’s Chief Arvind Kejriwal, Damania and other AAP activists for defaming Purti Group and Nitin Gadkari.
