Aam Adami Party (AAP) Nagpur volunteers met with Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC)  Additional Commissioner, Pawar and handed over a list of demands concerning the alleged rape of a sanitary worker at NMC’s Satranjipura Zone office.  AAP demanded the immediate suspension of accused Chandan Meshram pending the completion of police and departmental enquiry into the matter. AAP also demanded that action be taken against the officer in charge of the concerned office, installation of CCTV cameras in every NMC office with live webcast of images to the NMC website, fast tracking of all enquiry proceedings in the matter, etc.

Pawar, after hearing the representation on the matter, directed Dhamecha to deliver the accused’s suspension order to him during the working hours on the basis of reports in today’s newspapers. He also informed that deputy municipal commissioner, Kakade has been directed to enquire into the matter and further action will be taken in two to three days.

AAP Nagpur volunteers also joined with city organizations of the handicapped persons in protesting at RBI Square today against the heinous rape of the 7 year old handicapped girl from Hingoli presently under treatment at GMC Nagpur.

District secretary Rajesh Pugalia in a statement to the press said that “the issues of citizen’s and particularly women’s safety are directly linked to the issue of excess security being provided to the leaders. So many of our police personnel have been given responsibility of  protecting the leaders preventing common people from bothering getting any help. By eliminating this waste of resources aimed solely at protecting leaders, more policemen and women will be available for the investigation of crimes against women and ordinary people.”
