State open, women rating chess tourney from Apr 28

Nagpur: After conducting Indiana Open FIDE Rating tournament, Nagpur Taluka Chess Association in association with Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College is organising Mecgale Maharashtra State Selection Open and Women FIDE Rating Chess Tournament from April 28 to May 2 at Dr Ambedkar College hall.

Addressing media persons secretary of Maharashtra Chess Association Dilip Pagay said after the long gap, the Orange City got the prospect to organize this prestigious event. This is an excellent opportunity to all Maharashtra players to participate in this prestigious event. He said top Chess players from all over districts of Maharashtra will be participating in this tournament as it is a selection tournament. More than 300 players are expected to participate in this event.

The total prize fund is Rs. 75000 and total 30 special prizes in the form of gold, silver and bronze medals/trophies will be awarded in various age categories from U-7 to U-15. Pagey said the winner in open category will get 15, 000.The runners-up will be awarded 10,000. Other prizes are Rs. 5000 (3rd), 4000 (4th), 3500 (5th), 2500 each (from sixth to tenth). The winner in women category will be richer by 7500. The runners-up will be awarded 5000. Other prizes are 2500 (3rd), 2000 (4th), 1750 (5th), 1250 each (from sixth to tenth). First four selected players from open and women will represent Maharashtra in National Challenger in both the categories respectively. The organizing secretary of the tournament is Sushant Jumde. IA Swapnil Bansod is the chief arbiter and will be assisted by Anurag Singh.

The tournament will be played in Swiss system with nine rounds. The entry fees is 500 for selected players and Rs. 1000 for donor participants to be paid before April 20. After that a late fee of 200 will be charged up to April 27 by 8 p.m.
