Nagpur: In a significant step towards the growth of the second capital as a metropolis, the final draft of the Nagpur Metro region urban development plan was approved on Saturday. The metropolis will comprise 721 villages across nine tehsils.
The decision was taken in the meeting of the Metro Region development committee chaired by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and held at divisional commissionerate.
The draft of the Nagpur Metro region development plan was tabled by chairman of Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) Shyam Wardhane in the meeting. Various points and issues in the draft were discussed in the meeting. The draft was finally approved with some changes in it. Fadnavis ordered immediate implementation of some of the developmental schemes. The entire scheme is estimated to cost ` 41,215.42 crore.

The meeting was attended by guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MP Ajay Sancheti, MLA Sudhakar Deshmukh, general secretary of urban development department Nitin Karir, secretary to CM Pravin Darade, divisional commissioner Anup Kumar, municipal commissioner Shravan Hardikar, NMC standing committee chairman Narendra Borkar and NIT trustee Dr Ravindra Bhoyar.
Plan details
The Nagpur Metro Area (NMA) will include 3,567 square kilometer area including nine tehsils and 721 villages. The Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) has been appointed as Special Planning Authority (SPA) and has been assigned the task of the constitutional development plan.The blueprint of the development plan has been prepared keeping in view the growth potential in the next 20 years and would be viable for the next 50 years.
Course of action
The draft of the development plan approved on Saturday will be published and objections and suggestions would be invited fromm citizens over it for the next 60 days. After this, the final plan will be modified and put to implementation
