The online admissions in Government-run hostels have turned out to be a hurdle for many OBC students coming from rural belt for studies in Nagpur. Dozens of students faced problems and were disappointed to find no accommodation for them in the hostels run by Social Welfare Department of State Government. The students got more heartburns when they found many rooms in the hostels lying vacant. The State Government spent huge money for building the hostels. An online admission process was started from this year to get admissions in these hostels.
However, according to information, even as two months have passed since the colleges have started, many students who had applied for accommodation have not received confirmation in the hostels. The Government has constructed hostels in district and talukas for the OBC students. But due to the apathetic administration many students are left in the lurch.
In Nagpur city, the Social Welfare Department runs the Sant Chokhamela Hostel near Deekshabhoomi, Muktabai Girls Hostel in Civil Lines and many other hostels. Many rooms in these hostels are vacant. Students from very far distance come to Nagpur for graduate and post-graduate studies. Government has facilitated them with hostels in the city itself. But even after completing the online admission process many students are not able to get accommodation for reasons better known to concerned officials.
The Social Welfare Department Officer could not be contacted for his version on the mess.
