2,222 criminals scanned under ‘Operation Crackdown’

Nagpur: The Nagpur Police have investigated records of as many as 2,222 criminals in just six days after Commissioner of Police (CP) launched ‘Operation Crackdown’ against all the history-sheeters to check criminal activities in the city. The ongoing drive has created a panic-like situation among criminals and anti-social elements in the city.

Looking at the involvement of history-sheeters in the recent crimes, the CP launched the ‘Operation Crackdown’ from August 27 and asked the Crime Branch and all police stations to check and update records of all criminals in their areas.

Police are investigating as how many cases are registered against the criminals, when was the last crime registered and what are they doing these days. Similarly, police have been asked to take preventive actions if any of the criminals found involved in crimes.

353 criminals booked under Arms Act; 1,018 criminals booked for crimes like murder, attempt to murder and assaults; 836 criminals booked for thefts, loots, chain-snatching and property-related crimes; and 15 criminals booked Under Narcotics Act were summoned to police stations and interrogated in the last six days.

Preventive actions were taken against 19 people under the Arms Act while two criminals under NDPS. Similarly, notices were issued to over 600 people under various sections of IPC and CrPC. Police said that strict action will be taken against those who still found involved in crimes despite this investigation. The operation is expected to be conducted till 15 days.
