Nagpur: A meeting of prominent farmers’ leaders and other personalities is being held in city on Saturday, March 31 to draw further course of action. The meeting will be held at 12 noon in Rashtrabhasha Sabha Hall.
The meeting is being held in the background of historic farmers’ agitation, coming together of 190 organisations of farmers, spurt of farmer suicides, anger against government among farmers and villagers, betrayal of farmers by ruling leaders, beggar like treatment to farmers who constitute 60/70 percent of total voters, and other farmers’ issues, Prof Dnyaneshwar Wakudkar said in a press release issued on behalf of Lok Jagar Abhiyan.
The meeting will discuss strategy to bring farmers under one platform and contesting of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections by prominent farmers’ leaders for giving a new alternative to the farmers. Prominent farmers leaders such as Amar Habib, Vijay Javandhiya, Adv Waman Chatap, Shrikant Taral, Prof Sharad Patil, Anil Dhanwat, Chandrakant Wankhede, Kishore Mathankar, Anant Deshpande, Ram Nevale, Gajanan Ahmedabadkar, Sanjay Kolhe, Gaju Nikam, Lalit Bahale and others have been invited to attend the meeting. Similarly, some scolars, literatteurs, journalists, anfd former administrative officers have also been invited.
The meeting will be attended by former District Collector E Z Khobragade, ex-Joint Commissioner (Sales Tax) Purshottam Gawande, Editor Avinash Dudhe, D K Arikar, Suresh Ramgunde, Devidas Lanjewar, Dagdu Padile, and other reputed personalities in various fields.
