Nagpur: In a brazen violation of Right to Education act, St John’s High School located in Mohan Nagar has again caught the eye of storm by conducting the written examination for admission to its primary and middle classes. As per the RTE norms, written examination cannot be taken for giving admission to wards in primary and middle classes. The parents are at suffering end owing to the whims and fancies of the school administration. The school has been in the controversy last time for disallowing the students who had not paid fees to sit in the examination.
Confirmed sources informed that St John’s school management has recently conducted written examination from class 1st to 4th at primary level and from class 5th to 9th at middle level. The notice in this regard has been duly put up on the school notice board. The parents approaching the school for getting their wards admitted are being told to go through the notice board.
Moreover, sources said, St John’s School has also flouted the school reopening directives issued by the district education officer. As per the district education department, the schools should not be reopened before June 26. Any school found flouting the said rule would attract action, the rules state. However, on the contrary, St John’s School has blatantly overlooked this norm too.

When Nagpur Today brought this to the attention of RTE action committee chairman Mohammad Shahid Sharif, he said that the school is clearly violating RTE law. He said often education department overlook such violations due to which the schools like St John’s go easy on the norms.
Middle school education officer Satish Mendhe told Nagpur Today that the students are not required to sit in the examination to get admission. He also assured of proper action in the matter. Nagpur Today tried to talk to the school principal Peter Dominic who preferred not to respond to our calls. Despite several attempts he remained unavailable for the comment.
